The Business Applications Manager will lead a team focused on Applications across all of Boral’s diverse business units including Concrete, Quarries, Asphalt and Cement. They will deliver and manage the digital solutions and associated processes required to enable Boral Australia to lead in the market. This senior and pivotal role will balance strategic planning, vendor management, team leadership and hands-on problem solving, particularly during major incidents or critical delivery milestones.

Customer service, stakeholder management and cross functional influence are critical in this role. The Business Applications Manager is responsible for Boral realising the tangible and intangible benefits from its digital platforms. The key to success in this role is the ability to effectively manage numerous vendors as well as to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders throughout all levels of the organisation in order to drive Customer Centric behaviours and thinking.

Your day will involve:

Team leadership

  • Set clear performance objectives and key results through to manage the team’s time allocation across projects and BAU support
  • Manage and deliver services to the agreed Capital and Operating budgets for each financial year
  • Create a compelling and customer centric vision for the Systems Strategy and Digital Experience.
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year digital roadmap for applications covering Concrete, Quarries, Asphalt and Cement operations, presenting that vision to senior leadership and business units, benchmarking against industry peers and competitor digital capabilities, identifying emerging technologies relevant to construction materials, and running workshops with business stakeholders to validate and refine the roadmap.
  • Influence Boral business and customers to advocate for continuous streamlining and efficiency

Demand Management

  • Ensure prioritisation and resolution of both Service Requests and Incidents for the suite of applications under Business systems.

Delivery of roadmap

  • Take ownership for sustainably delivering the highest value system and customer digital transformation changes within the capacity of the team
  • Compose complex business cases including financial modelling (ROI, NPV) to secure capital funding for relevant programs of work to deliver the roadmap, anticipating changes in customer needs and actively adapting delivery plans.  

Delivery of operational application support services and technical systems

  • Take ownership for demonstrating stable and operational digital platforms to the customer. This includes ownership of operational technical support and incident resolution.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build relationships with business leaders in operations (site managers, plant managers), finance, procurement, and customer-facing teams, running steering committee meetings, gathering and translating business requirements into technical specifications, and acting as the escalation point for major issues.

What are we looking for?

  • Demonstrated experience as a Manager of Business Systems and in a senior role involving strategy, delivery, vendor and customer management
  • Relevant University degree qualifications desirable
  • Experience with key systems such as Oracle Financials and Salesforce CRM
  • Commercially astute with the ability to manage the Total Cost of Ownership as to balance and articulate long term strategic thinking and short term tactical planning
  • Proven experience in delivering technology projects within budget, scope and timelines to meet customer expectations, combined with managing project governance and reporting.
  • Proven leadership experience with success in inspiring, coaching and motivating others.
  • Experience in technical architecture and integration capability with tools like BAPI, Boomi, Mulesoft, Chameleon.
