Based at our state-of-the-art Cement Plant in Geelong and reporting to the Head of Engineering, Assets and Technology, you will be responsible for supporting, improving and managing major preventative maintenance work to ensure execution meets the desired standard. With a focus on improving plant reliability, this role is responsible for moving maintenance from reactive to predictive levels by conducting plant audits, developing maintenance standards, building a reliability focused culture, adopting new technologies and implementing improvement plans to address reliability issues. As a technical expert, this role provides hands on support to the execution team, contributes to asset care strategy development through technical input, structured problem solving and FMEA processes.

Your day will involve:

  • Ensure the reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls and safety/security systems
  • Provide hands on technical support and support execution work on major overhauls during planned shuts and un - planned events
  • As the technical specialist, be the point of contact for maintenance execution teams to improve maintenance execution, assist in problem solving and improve maintenance execution standards and plant performance
  • Identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations
  • Manage project design components and contribute to capital plans and manage improvement actions.
  • Work towards building reliability culture and moving towards true predictive maintenance through active leadership, hands on approach to problem solve, implement improvement plans and adopting technologies (IoT, machine learning)
  • Supports maintenance execution team and fill in for maintenance supervisor where required to manage in house teams and contractors to deliver completion of work schedules including planned, interrupted & improvement work
  • Review and analyse plant condition based preventive plans including lubrication, thermography, vibration etc. and implement actions to improve plant reliability and asset life
  • Systematically define, design, develop, monitor and refine an asset maintenance plan that includes value-added preventive maintenance tasks
  • Standardisation of preventive plans and supports maintenance execution team by developing and improving maintenance standardized processes and procedures (SOP’s)
  • Conduct an analysis of downtime data to identify existing and emerging reliability issues, looking for the root cause analysis of failures and incidents and the identification/implementation of solutions to prevent recurrence
  • Develop and implement engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations, including problems related to capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues
  • Work towards extending asset life and plant campaign duration through improved asset maintenance, material changes and modification where appropriate to reduce maintenance costs and optimise production
  • Perform analyses of assets utilization, overall equipment effectiveness and remaining useful life, cost of goods sold and other parameters that define operating condition, reliability and costs of assets.

What are we looking for?

  • Degree in engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) discipline preferred with a demonstrated maintenance execution background
  • Expertise in Cement Industry (Advantage) or Heavy manufacturing Industry in a similar maintenance role
  • Formal problem-solving and root cause investigation training and experience is preferred
  • Experience in cement assets failure modes and maintenance requirements for modelling maintenance standards and processes will be highly regarded
  • Competency in Maintenance: CMMS – Maximo is preferred
  • Sound knowledge of lubrication, thermography, vibration and condition-based monitoring.
  • A bias for action, strong safety focus and ability to positively influence trust and confidence in working relationships
  • Demonstrated people leadership ability to develop effective working relationships with all people, and to lead and influence
