Based at our Berrima Cement Facility, the Process Chemist is a key role aimed at ensuring a high level of testing accuracy and precision is maintained for all testing methods and analysis used and developed for alternative fuels, raw materials and by products of the cement production process. You will be given an opportunity to identify opportunities in improvements in alternative fuels as well as the development and implementation of QA/QC procedures for alternative fuels.

Your day will involve:

  • The provision of testing services, analysis of product quality data and provision of suitable recommendations to the Quality Control Manager for areas requiring immediate action or improvement.
  • Working with the Quality Control Manager to ensure the Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials program is effectively supported.
  • Assisting in developing, directing, monitoring and performing plant and laboratory trials for modifications of existing product properties or for the development of entirely new products
  • Assisting in preparing monthly reports as required for Alternative Fuels Program.
  • Maintaining Laboratory operating cost within the budget.
  • Ensuring a high level of availability for all process critical test equipment (eg. Calorimeter, UV, sample preparation equipment) including technical support in the commissioning, operation, maintenance, calibration and breakdown of analytical equipment and process software.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree held in either Material Science, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Applied Science (Chemistry).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an industrial Laboratory environment.
  • Experience in cement manufacturing is desirable, as is experience managing a small team.
  • Experience in preparing financial justifications for equipment purchases is desirable.
  • Experience in Laboratory data management systems is desirable.
  • High level of technical capability with respect to the operations and maintenance of precision analytical equipment e.g. XRF, PSD, LECO, Calorimeter.
  • Advanced computing skills, e.g. Excel, word with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
