Location: Opportunities across Australia, with roles expected in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia

About the opportunity

If you lead an aggregates operation in Canada, the fundamentals of this role will be familiar. Hard rock and sand and gravel. Drill and blast. A crushing and screening circuit that rewards a manager who knows it well. A haul fleet, a maintenance program, customer deadlines, and an ongoing relationship with the community on your boundary.

What changes in Australia is the operating calendar. There is no freeze-up, no spring thaw and no winter shutdown, so there are no seasonal layoffs for your crew. You plan and deliver a full twelve months of production, which allows for more consistent forecasting, more continuity in your team and a longer runway for improvement work.

About Boral

Boral is Australia's largest integrated construction materials business and part of Seven Group Holdings. We operate quarries, concrete plants, asphalt plants, recycling facilities and cement operations that supply the roads, bridges, tunnels, hospitals and homes Australians rely on every day.

Our purpose is Building Something Great. It shapes how we run our sites: safely, reliably, and in a way our communities can be proud of.

Being vertically integrated is material to this role. You can see precisely where your product goes and what it builds, and you work directly with the downstream businesses that depend on it.

Why we are recruiting in Canada

We are seeking experienced quarry leaders for Quarry Manager roles we expect to fill across our Australian operations over the next twelve months.

We are advertising in Canada deliberately. The two industries have developed along similar lines: comparable plant and fleet, mature regulators, and the same expectation that everyone goes home safe. Canadian quarry leaders transfer their experience here with very little lead time. If you have led this work and you have considered a move to Australia, we encourage you to register your interest now so we can contact you when a suitable role becomes available.

The role

You would hold full accountability for a quarry site, or a small group of sites, managed as a business.

  • Safety. Leading from the front on our Life Saving Rules and our commitment to Zero Harm Today.
  • Production. Owning the plan from drill and blast through crushing, screening and dispatch, and meeting quality specifications and volume targets in tonnes.
  • Assets. Running disciplined maintenance on fixed and mobile plant so that it is safe, compliant, reliable and optimised.
  • Commercial. Owning the site P&L, the budget, cost per tonne and the improvement plan.
  • Environment and compliance. Operating within our licences and approvals, managing ground disturbance, fuels and chemicals, rehabilitation, and the relationship with neighbours and the regulator.
  • People. Leading, coaching and rostering a team of operators, tradespeople, supervisors and contractors.
  • Customers. Working with our concrete, cement, asphalt and external customers so they receive the right product, on time, every time.

About you

  • Proven leadership of an aggregates, quarry or pit operation, or a strong second in charge ready to step up.
  • Practical knowledge of crushing and screening circuits, mobile fleet, load and haul, drill and blast, and people leadership.
  • Confidence with production planning, budgets and cost per tonne.
  • A sound record of operating within the regulatory, environmental and permit conditions of your jurisdiction. Australian experience is not required. We will help you map your qualifications and tickets across, including the statutory quarry competencies required in the state you move to.
  • A genuine intention to relocate to Australia, and eligibility to hold an Australian work visa.
  • Alignment with our values: safety, teamwork, ambition, accountability and respect.

Relocation support

Relocating a career and a family across the Pacific is a significant decision, and we manage it as a project with a clear plan.

For candidates we progress to a live role, we would expect to provide visa sponsorship and a relocation package in line with Boral's relocation and global mobility policy.

What we offer

  • A competitive salary in Australian dollars, with superannuation paid on top by Boral.
  • A minimum of four weeks paid annual leave, plus public holidays and long service leave.
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance, incentive plan, health and wellbeing program, employee share plan and parental leave.
  • Established career paths. Our quarry leaders progress into area, operational and general management roles.
  • A business investing in its plant and its people, with a firm commitment to one per cent improvement every day.

Living and working in Australia

Our quarries operate in established communities across six states. Some sites sit on the outskirts of the capital cities, within reach of the coast and everything a major centre offers. Others are in regional cities and country towns, where housing costs less, the commute is measured in minutes and there is more room to spread out.

These are permanent, residential positions. You and your family would live in the community your site supports, with schools, health services, sport and the outdoors close by. We will be specific about the location of any role, and what living there involves, well before you make a decision.

How to apply

Submit your application and tell us which parts of Australia interest you, and approximately when you would be able to move.

We review every application and will contact you within seven days of applying. If we interview you for a specific role, we will advise you of the outcome within seven days of your final interview.

Boral is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If you require an adjustment at any point in the process, please let us know and we will arrange it.
