We have an opportunity for a Senior Environment Business Partner to join our QLD team.
Reporting to the Head of Environment, this role provides strategic leadership and specialist technical support to strengthen Boral’s environmental culture, capability and overall performance. Working closely with Operational Leaders, General Managers and key support functions, this individual will be accountable for embedding proactive, risk‑based environmental management across operations. This critical role is key in supporting the business to understand obligations, anticipate emerging risks and apply consistent standards that align with Boral’s vision, values and operating model. With a small team reporting in, this is a people leadership role where you will need to travel to our sites across QLD.
Your day will involve:
Leadership and Engagement
- Build strong relationships and partner with Operational Leaders and respective GMs to prioritise focus areas based on environmental compliance and risk.
- Provide support and guidance to operational leaders and project teams in managing their site compliance and risk matters and relevant environmental management plans.
- Lead, enable and coach operational managers in relation to the effectiveness of environmental compliance and risk processes and assist with identifying and coordinating risk reduction, improvement and assurance activities.
Governance and Assurance
- Undertake assurance and audit activities to verify that environmental compliance requirements and environmental obligations within the HSEQ Management Systems are met, and where gaps are identified, ensure that action plans are developed in consultation with site leaders and rolled out within appropriate timeframes.
Systems and Programs
- Undertake, support and maintain environmental inspection verifications and environmental aspects and impacts register reviews on site.
- Provide specialist environmental advice, coaching and training, including supporting site personnel with sourcing and providing relevant legislative/regulatory information.
Reporting
- Attend management forums and deliver environmental reports and updates to relevant GM’s and their respective leadership teams.
- Provide monthly reports to the Head of Environment on environmental performance and the status of initiatives/programs as well as coordinating external environmental reporting for the Region.
Regulatory matters
- Support the operations in appropriate preparation, management and response to environmental regulatory compliance inspections, audits, statutory reports and incident notifications.
- Develop effective relationships with key state environmental regulators to facilitate constructive regulatory outcomes.
Incident Management
- Provide leadership advice and support to the operations in managing incidents and assisting with determination of the level of investigation and incident classification for environmental incidents.
- Facilitate the reporting, investigation and management of serious (L3+) environmental incidents in accordance with relevant Boral/regulatory procedures.
What are we looking for?
- Significant demonstrated experience in an Environmental Management role within the Construction or Construction Materials Industry.
- Proven track record of providing functional support in a complex environment.
- Tertiary level qualification in Environmental management or related field, including Natural Resource Management, Engineering or Science.
- Proven experience in environmental reporting, and to identify, assess and mitigate critical environmental risks including undertake complex risk assessments at a site and business unit level.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation of environmental policy, systems, plans and programs.
- Knowledge of environmental and planning legislation in QLD and at federal levels.
